Why is it everytime I need to reverse park, and I do it successfully, there is never a witness?? Today I found the neatest place to park my little Curore - and did get a high-5 from a total stranger. I took a photo - and to my chagrin, I didn't even manage to capture the front section of the little alcove that I found, but trust me, it is only about 2foot in front of the car.

Now to the market - It was chilly, very, very chilly. Although outside, I was lucky to have a building behind me, which sheltered me from any breeze. I waited and waited for the sunshine - it came out from time to time, but blessed be, there was NO rain while I was there.
This is my stand, just before open time. Yes - a bit of pink glass here and there.... pretty much all of the creamer & sugar sets went and all the teacups. I came home with one box left than I arrived and am happy with the result. I met lots and lots of people - and hopefully some of them are YOU, reading this blog today.
This is pretty much the only art glass I have. These are lamp bases - the hole for the electricals have been created while the glass was molten. They stand 17 inches tall. The yellow one still has the original sandbag in the base and remains of the cork stopper and metal capping. The blue one has been re-wired so that a light can be placed inside, showing the pattern on the glass.

This is cased glass and the pattern formed by complete bubbles in the coloured section - in such an ordered pattern - showing mastery by the glass manufacturer. I don't believe these are by Murano, but certainly a top quality piece of glassware.
There is no signature on the base. They are both for sale, but I would be hesitant to put these into the post - so local enquiries only please.BronnyBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06729424866466315098noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-987411818323196417.post-82543204917534172582012-04-05T16:29:00.000-07:002012-04-14T16:50:47.835-07:00Brushing away the Cobwebs ..........

Therefore - Antique & Collectable Markets !!!!!!
You can see the small pink dessert bowl here (second bowl from the left). I was tempted to pick it up, as today would have been Mum's 80th birthday, but as I already have 12 of these bowls, decided to leave it to another collector. The little pink bowl to the very left, I believe to be Australian Crown Crystal. You can just see the difference between Australian Pink and American Pink glass. The American Pink Depression Glass is more a watermelon pink, where the Aussie Pink has a slight peachy tone. (Don't you just love the blue comport with a pink tassel? I was all set up and had my post ready to go and lost it somewhere in the ether...so here I go..a belated PINK SATURDAY (on Sunday!)

Generally described as an Art Deco Float bowl, this piece is described as produced anywhere from the 1930's all the way to the mid 50's. I feel too that it is a later, rather than earlier production. The frosted fish is in perfect condition, sitting in a frog - that is what the middle piece is called (why? who knows?) and the two pieces themselves rest in a low flared bowl which has a slightly raised section to safely fit the frog and fish. The idea would be to fill the bowl with water, and arrange your flowers and foliage to 'float' and of course, some flowerstalks could be arranged to fit in the holes in the frog to stand up. I would expect these to have been more frothy foliage, to give the effect that the fish was leaping from a pond.
It is common to see these in pink, but I have also seen a blue and amber version.
Of course, I prefer the pink. (Although a blue fish leaping through the foliage could be spectacular!)

This particular item IS for sale. Look around on the infoweb if you like - from time to time, one appears on ebay.
My price is AUD $185.00 plus postage. I can post anywhere in the world - email me for more details. My email details are within my profile.

Hello Again - another Pink Saturday rolls around.

This week, my Pink Glass selection is the pattern called 'Old Colony'.

Made by Hocking Glass company from 1935-38 it also is known as 'Lace Edge' or 'Open Lace'. A delicate shade of pink, but is so easily chipped by the flat edge being pushed against other glassware or walls.
The comport shown here on its edge is the first piece of Old Colony that I purchased and the first piece of pink glass that I bought for 'me' - not bought to be passed to my Mum. Chipped and all, I still like this piece and at christmas time, will fill my glassware with small sparkly christmas ornaments.
The teacup and saucer is very nice, but I'm never sure about drinking hot drinks in clear glass...I'd be worried about the glass shattering.
Of course, down the track, Hocking Glass Company joined with Anchor Glass and became Anchor Hocking who are famous for their 'Fire-King' range. (another collecting obsession of mine - but we'll deal with that another day!)
The saucer also serves as a base plate for the comport - many Hocking glassware items had dual purposes - just a clever design idea in the Depression years - make every item serviceable.
This pattern was relatively plentiful here in Australia. I wonder if the Australian Crown Crystal company purchased the molds from Hocking, as they appear to have done with another pattern Iris & Herringbone. This pattern however, is only found in sweet watermelon pink.

This week, I have two items to show off in the one photo.
The piece to the front I am led to believe is an apprentice piece. After the plate is taken from the mold, while still warm, or after being gently heated, the four sides are folded up and a rod of glass is applied. A clever apprentice could produce many of these in uniform size and shape. The better the skill, the better the angle and neatness. I think that this plate is an Australian Crown Crystal plate, as the pattern is fairly generic - and I see a lot of this pattern as plain plates/saucers. I don't pick up the apprentice pieces unless they are pink nowadays.
The second piece of glass, is a pink version of a green one that I fell in love with about 15 years ago. I scrimped and saved to purchase the Sowerby Uranium Green Hermes/Mercury Vase when I had no other item of green glass. About 6 years ago, I aquired the pink version which matches so much more of my glass. I see green ones all around, but not pink ones. There is a flower frog inside the vase that sits and allows the flower stems to be arranged 'just so'. (Please pardon the dust on my shelves)BronnyBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06729424866466315098noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-987411818323196417.post-86592091362573674252010-06-05T08:24:00.000-07:002012-04-14T16:53:32.830-07:00Pink Saturday - Mayfair Sandwich Platter
Most glass featured on this blog will be available for sale - Photos will follow over the following weeks.

How did my collection start?
I blame my mother - She was given 6 pink 'Mayfair' Water Goblets as a wedding present in 1950, and over the years would pick up any pink glass on her travels - especially if it were 'her pattern'. 'Royal Lace' became a favourite too, and as I grew up and was able to be trusted inside antique shops, developed an affinity with the pink glass too.
As a young adult, I would keep an eye out for 'Mum's Pattern' and pick up the odd piece or two whenever I could. The intention was always to forward it to Mum for her collection, but somehow one or two pieces stayed with me. I seem to have a selection of 'Old Colony' that Mum never picked up.
In August 2007, Mum passed away - and her collection of Pink Glass came to me. I thought that Mum had about 30-40 pieces which would combine nicely with my 20-30 pieces.
WRONG - we each had over 80 pieces - which means I now have over 160 pieces of Pink Glass in my collection - Mostly Mayfair and Royal Lace patterns.
Being the mother of two boys, who are not so enthused about the colour pink - or washing the glass when it's been used on the table - it is time to thin down my collection somewhat.

Please leave a comment - I am only to happy to answer any questions and share any knowlege with new collectors.BronnyBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06729424866466315098noreply@blogger.com3
